Members of the Public May Speak on Agenda Items
1. Open Time for Public Expression
The public is welcome to address the Fire Commission at this time on matters not on the agenda that are within its
jurisdiction. Please be advised that pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the Fire Commission is not
permitted to discuss or take action on any matter not on the agenda unless it determines that an emergency exists, or
that there is a need to take immediate action which arose following posting of the agenda. Comments may be no
longer than two minutes and should be respectful to the community.
2. Approval of Minutes – February 14, 2024
Recommended Action: Amend and or approve as submitted.
3. SRFD 150th Anniversary – Historical Items & Preparations
4. Fire Foundation – Verbal Update from Commissioner Donna McCusker and Discussion Regarding
the Fire Scholarship
Recommended Action: Accept Verbal Report and take appropriate action.

7. Fire Chief Report
Informational only. No action to be taken.

1. Open Time for Public Expression
No public comments
2. Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Fonkalsrud makes a motion to approve the draft minutes. Seconded by Commissioner
Chung.
The minutes are adopted unanimously.
3. Annual Wildfire Safety Mailer – Presentation
Quinn Gardner, Deputy Director of Emergency Management and Justin Goger Malo present the Annual
Wildfire Safety Mailer and answer the Commissioners’ questions. Commissioners discuss the best
approach to reach every resident to learn and get ready for wildfires.
Quinn Gardner comments on the Marin Tree Removal Plan, a major eucalyptus tree removal project on
150 acres between the Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery and Ridgewood Drive.
4. Fire Foundation - Verbal Update from Commissioner Donna McCusker
Commissioner McCusker reports the crab feed was a great success and $17,000 were raised. The
Foundation thanks all the volunteers and Firefighters who helped.
The San Rafael Fire Foundation Board is looking to welcome new volunteers as well as non-resident
retired Firefighters.
5. Current Media Coverage
Sonoma County Fire District to launch 911 ambulance service – Sonoma County Gazette
Chief Roman explains how Sonoma County Fire District needed a new ambulances prior to launching
their 911 ambulance service.
Next month, Chair Burford will be presenting a firefighting drone used in China.
6. Commissioners’ Report
Commissioner Johnson is starting a new project offering safety advice to high school drivers.
Commissioner Chung acknowledges the benefits of fully staffing all San Rafael stations, Engine 54 in
particular.
8. Fire Chief’s Report
Chief Sinnott provides department wide updates including there were no major damage or injury
related to the Feb 4th storm.
Chief Roman gives each new Commissioner their Fire Commissioner badge and explains their symbols
and use.
