San Pedro Road from Rivera Drive to Biscayne Drive for the Marin County Marathon, Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. BACKGROUND: The annual Marin County Marathon will be held Saturday morning, beginning at 7 am, at McNear's Beach County Park. This is a not for profit event. All net proceeds are donated to charity, which this year include the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund and the Friends of China Camp. ANALYSIS: The Sustainable Sports Foundation event producer, Mark Liebert will notify local residents in the Peacock Gap area (via mail or home owner associations) of the event details. In the five years of this event, Mr. Liebert has received nearly all positive responses from the residents. Up to two thousand local and national athletes will participate in the event. All marketing and production is done by the event organizer. Eastbound San Pedro Road from Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive will be closed. All tributary roads will be open with closure controls and detours as designated by the Police Department. The event will be coordinated with Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments. FISCAL IMPACT: A minimum number of Police Officers will be required and the producer will pay for all related Police Services. Cleanup is being handled by the event producers. There will be no cost to the City. OPTIONS: • Accept the street closures as proposed • Modify the streets to be closed. SAN PEDRO ROAD FROM RIVIERA DRIVE TO BISCAYNE DRIVE FOR MARIN COUNTY MARATHON SATURDAY, MARCH 30, 2013 FROM 7 A.M. TO 12 P.M. WHEREAS, the annual Marin County Marathon necessitates the temporary closure of a street as specified below: Eastbound San Pedro Road from Riviera Drive to Biscayne Drive, 7a.m. to 12 p.m.; and WHEREAS, after reviewing plans for the event and the traffic patterns, City staff has determined and recommended that, in the interest of the safety and welfare of pedestrian and auto traffic in the Peacock Gap area, the above street should be temporarily closed to through traffic for the date and times described above. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. That all of the above findings are true and correct; 2. That, pursuant to the authority of Vehicle Code section 21101(e), for the safety and protection of persons, both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, the City Council hereby authorizes the temporary closure of the above listed streets for the date and times described above.
