RECOMMENDATION: Join the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce in support of 2013
Business Appreciation Week.
BACKGROUND: The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce is joining with other business groups
to recognize and celebrate the role of business in civic life. The City of San Rafael joins the
Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Improvement Association in supporting our
local businesses.
ANALYSIS: The City of San Rafael would like to join with others in demonstrating the
importance of small and large businesses in our community,

WHEREAS, Small Businesses make up an essential part of the economic health of the City of
San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, Small Businesses create a strong local economy, provide employment and
leadership opportunities, and provide the products and services that are necessary to residents and
other businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael supports the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, which
functions as a highly successful resource for Small Businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael acknowledges the recognition of the San Rafael Chamber of
Commerce as Gold Medal Winner of Best Chamber of Commerce in the North Bay; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael supports the San Rafael Business Improvement District,
which provides business support and advocacy for our Downtown businesses; and
WHEREAS, Small Businesses, the City of San Rafael, the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce,
and the Business Improvement District work together to promote and strengthen the community;
and
WHEREAS, Small Businesses generate vitality and add life to all San Rafael business centers;
and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael and the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce want to
recognize the contribution of Small Businesses to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San
Rafael designate May 20 -24, 013 as Small Business Week and express sincere appreciation for
the contributionsAof the ('haq*-r and all Small Businesses in the City of San Rafael.
