Last year the event raised funds for the San Rafael High School Athletic Program and Girls on the Run (Marin Chapter). Non -profits for this year have yet to be selected. The success and popularity of this locally nurtured event is best exemplified in the growth of the field of athletes from just over one hundred and fifty in 2009 to over nine hundred athletes in 2013. ANALYSIS.- The Downtown (Miracle) Mile added an overlapping event in 2013 called the 415mile to increase benefits to the non -profits and grow the unique aspect of the event with the addition of a five mile urban course. The five mile race will feature a variety of neighborhoods in, San Rafael focusing the start and finish on Fourth Street in the core of our Downtown. Though the course technicalities of the event are complex the event maintains its low impact by an earl morning start on a Sunday but also brings approximately over a thousand or more athletes and supporters into our City. Cross traffic on Fourth Street will be allowed intermittently and monitor., will work with the Police Department to conduct a safe event. There will also be an Exposition on A Street during the event featuring demonstrations in the latest athletic items, sampling, giveaways' and sponsor recognition. A small beer garden may be included as part of the expo to further increase the fundraising income for the non-profit charities. FISCAL IMPACT: With the loss of the Redevelopment Agency funding overtime expenses P nave been required to be paid by the events. The City will be providing some in-kind services ncluding No Parking signage, event coordination and planning with other City Departments.
