What is a Community School District?
A community school is both a place and a set
of partnerships between a school district and
other community resources. Its integrated focus
on academics, youth development, family
support, health and social services, and
community development leads to improved
student learning, stronger families, and healthier
communities.
Why Community Schools for SRCS?
San Rafael City Schools demographics:
• 64 percent Free and Reduced Lunch (poverty)
• Lack of access to timely, appropriate resources:
— Physical, mental, and other health care services
— Vision and dental care
— Housing challenges
— Foster and transitional youth
