Vivian Smith, Library Director (1970) CHANGING TIMES 500000 300000 100000 Library Size Population Circulation 2015 1909 HOW WE GOT HERE • 2003: City of San Rafael General Plan 2020 says City should "renovate and expand or replace" the Library • 2004: Library Foundation formed • 2012: Fundraising feasibility study conducted • 2013: Foundation library advocate visioning workshop • 2014: Community survey about community needs and wants • 2014: City has $541,195 set aside in a capital reserve fund to put toward a new library • 2015: City Council established the New Library Subcommittee MOVING FORWARD • March 2015 - two day workshop + community meeting to establish a vision for a new library for San Rafael • Spring 2015 - formal needs assessment and building program analysis • Future - public meetings and surveys, outreach efforts, site studies, fundraising COMMUNITY OUTREACH To Date • Workshop with library advocates • Foundation fundraising and status update letters • Community survey about a new library Next Steps • Visioning workshop and community meeting in March • Community focus groups, surveys, meetings, and returns to City Council KAY CORLETT MEMORIAL FUND $462,120 donation Long-time generous Library Foundation donor "A library accessible to all" WHAT WE'RE ASKING Please accept the report and adopt the attached resolution to establish the Kay Corlett Memorial Fund.
