HomeMy WebLinkAboutCM SMART Station Design ColorAgenda Item No: 5. d CITY G1..� Meeting Date: March 16, 2015 SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT Department: CITY MANAGER Prepared by: Nancy Mackie, City Manager SUBJECT: City Council Direction Regarding Preferred Downtown SMART Station Design Color Selection RECOMMENDATION: Provide direction to staff on the preferred station design color for the Downtown San Rafael Station DISCUSSION: On February 17, 2015, the City Council provided Mayor Phillips, City Council's representative on SMART, with direction regarding Council preference for a new station design concept (Exhibit 1). On February 18, 2015, the SMART Board of Directors adopted the new design aesthetic. Their direction included establishing a color for the platform shelter and amenities of gloss black. The Board also asked that SMART provide individual jurisdictions an opportunity to select a color other than black (Exhibit 2). Following these meetings, Planning Commissioner Larry Paul contacted the vendor for the preferred shelters and obtained color selections from the company that manufactures the roofing (Exhibit 3). Mr. Paul suggested, and the Council SMART Subcommittee concurs and recommends to the full Council the selection of the color "Terra Cotta". FISCAL IMPACT: There is not fiscal impact to this action. OPTIONS: The City Council has the following options to consider on this matter: 1. Accept the SMART Subcommittee recommendation for the color "Terra Cotta" 2. Select a different color, or agree to the standard gloss black for the shelters and amenities. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Provide direction to staff regarding the preferred color selection. EXHIBITS: 1. The adopted aesthetic centers around a standing seam hip style roof for the platform shelters. Their direction on aesthetics included establishing a color for the platform shelter and amenities of gloss black. This design aesthetic is included with this transmittal and described as Option 2. David Rabbitt The Board directed staff to provide our municipal partners with an opportunity to Sonoma County Board of Supervisors select between the two options that they chose from so that a jurisdiction could Carol Russell choose an aesthetic they feel best fits their community. In addition, the Board Sonoma Mayors and Councilmembers would like to provide an opportunity for municipalities to select a color other than Association black. Confirm that you are agreeable with the Option 2 design aesthetic in black. Shirlee Zane OR Sonoma County Board of Supervisors 2. Choose the Option 1 design aesthetic (this was presented to you as part of the 65% design review package). It is also included in the staff report (Enclosure 1). Both options are complete packages that consist of a shelter, lighting, waste receptacles, and seating that is incorporated into the shelter. You may select the Option 1 package if you prefer it over the Option 2 package that the Board selected. We cannot mix and match different elements from a package however.
