The Committee serves an advisory role in assisting the City with creating or modifying those procedures, policies and standards that will bring San Rafael into compliance with the Settlement Agreement and all applicable federal and state accessibility standards. Membership: see attached "ADA Access Advisory Committee" roster. 2014 Highlights: Committee members participated in a June accessibility forum organized by the Business Improvement District and the Marin Center for Independent Living. The event provided business and property owners with information about affordable, practical changes associated with accessibility that will benefit all customers. The Committee requested the removal of the pedestrian crossing at P St., near Kaiser, which was dangerous for the able-bodied and particularly treacherous for the disabled. Focused on the ongoing work to create the 800+ curb ramps the City has constructed since 2004, including 367 of the 765 identified by the Department of Justice Settlement Agreement. 2015 Goals: With the advent of SMART, advise the City Council about potential problems arising from the new access routes to the transit center and the potential for accessibility issues connected with the proposed safety gates. Support and participate in the planned August 2 ADA celebration event.
