Its integrated focus on academics, youth development, family support, health and social services, and community development leads to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities. What is a Community School District? 2 San Rafael City Schools demographics: 64 percent Free and Reduced Lunch (poverty) Lack of access to timely, appropriate resources: Physical, mental, and other health care services Vision and dental care Housing challenges Foster and transitional youth Why Community Schools for SRCS? 3 2014-15 2015- Where Are We Currently and Where Are We Going? 2013-14 4 San Rafael City Schools Community Schools Shared Accountability 5 Community-School Listening Sessions * Denotes both elementary and middle school aged participants. 6 Preliminary Data Analysis: Emerging Themes Collaborative partnerships between SRCS and community partners should be based on shared goals that are fundamental to student and families success. Significant changes in how SRCS and external service providers collaborate – a shift toward integrated coordination of services to better support students and families. Relationship between community and schools is critical to making community schools successful – investment is essential.
