MATTHEW C. ODETTO
WHEREAS, Matthew C. Odetto accepted the position of Chief of Police for the San Rafael
Police Department in 2006 serving the community until his retirement in 2011;
and
WHEREAS, Matt Odetto is retiring after a 30 year career in law enforcement, serving first as a
Deputy Sheriff with the Marin County Sheriffs Office in 1981, appointed Chief
of Police for the Town of Tiburon in 2000, and appointed as Chief of Police for
the City of San Rafael in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Matt worked closely with the City's management team and police personnel to
make the City of San Rafael a safer community; and
WHEREAS, all those who met Matt in connection with his duties as Chief of Police for the
City of San Rafael were greeted with enthusiasm, treated professionally and were
impressed by his dedication; and
WHEREAS, Matt's philosophy of "Protecting the Mission City" has been central
to the manner in which those under his command carry out their duties; and
WHEREAS, Matt Odetto has retired from the San Rafael Police Department after
four and one half years of dedicated service to the community and
as San Rafael's fifteenth Chief of Police.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby extend their gratitude to Matthew C. Odetto for his dedication, commitment
and contributions to the City and wish him every success in the future.
